Guest Talk – Musion 3D

Musion 3D was the second guest talk in our final set. They create holographic projections and are most renowned for their event using a projection of Michael Jackson on stage.

They also have worked with retail using motion gestures, RFID tagging and augmented reality (again in front of live audiences).

This is more a company that is development based than design.

Guest Talk – Southpaw

Our final set of guest talks began with a presentation from Southpaw. The company deals with new and exciting interactive technologies.

They work with other agencies to create adverts related to digital media.

The internships advertised by them is for a creative technologist (in charge of design and coding). They work with companies such as Dunkin’ Doughnuts and Tough Mudder.

It could be a company that I apply to work for during my placement.

Current technologies

Technology already has immensely impacted our lives. It has connected people from around the world in a way that was never before anticipated.

My first example of technology like this is the smartphone. Not only is it a very powerful technology that encompasses applications and tech such as GPS to make our lives easier, but it also has the potential to exponentially develop and work with other technologies to continue connecting people internationally.

CAD and 3D Printing is a technology that will shape our future. It is already possible to print in 3D and scientists have created objects like guns that actually function. The future of this technology is a lot less 2 dimensional than the current technology allows. The possibilities could mean advances in medicine – 3D printed organ transplants or in estates – what if we could just print a house, or food?

Nintendo Application

As my first online application, the Nintendo ‘Digital Media Creation’ internship job form was a completely new experience. There was no deadline for the application, but I feel that the earlier that I could get it done the better. The role involved preparing footage with video editing tools, capturing footage, making trailers and marketing for one of the biggest companies in the video games industry. The required skills were: – The internship has to be mandatory for your current studies – The minimal length of the internship should be 6 months – Strong interest in video games – Experience in video editing – Proficient use of both Mac OS and Windows – Good knowledge of professional movie editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, After effect, etc. – Strong skills in written and spoken English (other European language is a plus) – Knowledge of Japanese would be beneficial, but not mandatory – Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely and cooperatively with different departments and team members.

Reflection Corner #5

  • This being my first online application, I feel that the outcome of the process of applying went well.
